Powered Industrial Truck Awareness
For people who work near forklifts and other powered industrial trucks rather than for operators: how to stay visible, read the warning signs a truck gives off, avoid the behaviors that get pedestrians hurt, and report incidents and near misses. The course states it does not cover PIT operation and is not adequate training to operate one.
Part of the compliance library: free for every employee at any company size.

What you will learn
- Identify common types of powered industrial trucks and where each is typically used, including sit-down hi-los and electric pallet jacks in warehouses and rough terrain forklifts on construction sites
- Describe how to work safely around a PIT, including wearing high-visibility PPE and watching for warning signs such as blue floor lights and horns
- Recognize unsafe behavior around PITs, such as riding along or trying to stop a truck from tipping
- Identify what must be reported after a PIT incident, including near misses, and the order of actions when someone is injured
