Hearing Protection
Protect your hearing in noisy work environments
What you'll be able to do
•Recognize when workplace noise is loud enough to damage hearing and understand that noise-induced hearing loss is permanent
•Select and correctly insert or fit hearing protection such as earplugs and earmuffs
•Understand the basic idea of noise reduction ratings and why proper fit matters more than the number on the package
•Identify signs of hearing damage and know why participating in hearing tests matters
Who it's for
Employees who work around loud machinery, power tools, or high-noise processes in manufacturing, warehousing, and construction settings. Relevant to supervisors overseeing areas where a hearing conservation program applies.
What changes on the job
•Consistent, correct use of hearing protection in loud areas
•Earplugs that are actually inserted properly instead of loosely resting in the ear
•Greater willingness to participate in hearing tests and report changes in hearing

How do I know if my workplace is loud enough to need protection?
A common rule of thumb is that if you have to raise your voice to be heard by someone an arm's length away, noise levels may be high enough to be harmful. Your employer measures noise levels and designates areas where protection is required.
How long is the course?
About 15 minutes and self-paced, so it works as onboarding for a noisy role or a periodic refresher within a hearing conservation program.
Is hearing loss from noise reversible?
No, and that is a central point of the course. Noise-induced hearing loss builds up gradually and cannot be undone, which is why consistent protection matters so much.
