Eye & Face Protection
Proper use of eye and face protection equipment
What you'll be able to do
•Identify hazards that threaten the eyes and face, including flying particles, chemical splash, dust, and light radiation from welding
•Choose the correct protection for the hazard, distinguishing safety glasses, goggles, and face shields
•Check that eye and face protection fits properly and is free of scratches or damage that reduce protection
•Take the right first steps if something gets in your eye or a chemical splash occurs
Who it's for
Employees exposed to flying debris, chemicals, dust, or intense light, such as machinists, grinders, welders, lab workers, and maintenance staff. A useful reference for anyone who spends time in an area where eye protection is posted.
What changes on the job
•The right level of eye protection chosen for each task instead of defaulting to basic glasses
•Face shields used together with primary eye protection where splash or impact is severe
•Quicker, correct response to eye injuries, including knowing where the eyewash station is

Are safety glasses enough, or do I sometimes need goggles or a face shield?
It depends on the hazard. Safety glasses handle general impact, goggles seal against dust and chemical splash, and face shields add protection for grinding or heavy splash. The course walks through how to match protection to the task.
How long does it take?
Roughly 15 minutes, self-paced, suitable for onboarding into a shop or lab role or as a refresher.
Can I wear my regular prescription glasses instead?
Everyday prescription glasses are not rated for impact or splash. The course explains why you need rated protection, which may include safety eyewear that fits over or is made to your prescription.
